PIMP MY BIKE: Maintenance and Service

How to... Bike

24th April 2023 | 0 comments

Dreaming of a bike polished like a dog's balls that will work better than a Swiss watch? Thanks to our range of service products and tools from Bikeworkx, Peaty's, Lezyne and Topeak, that dream can easily become a reality and in this article we'll tell you how!

Clean and Degrease

Before you start lubricating and adjusting, you need to wash the whole bike thoroughly from dust and dirt and degrease the individual components. A bucket or water hose and a set of Brushes are great for basic cleaning. To really get rid of all the dirt, we recommend a bike cleaner. Loamfoam Cleaner is a product for maintaining and cleaning mud and other dirt from your wheels. It is applied with a spray bottle and thanks to the thick foam it draws dirt into itself even from the least accessible places. It cleans the whole bike quickly and gently. This product is also suitable for carbon frames. So first apply the cleaner and leave it on for a few minutes. Then rinse the whole bike again with water and clean with a brush. After rinsing, it is a good idea to wipe the whole bike with a cloth and dry it.

Now that the bike is clean, we can start with the chain. A clean and lubricated chain is the basis for a quiet and reliable ride, so you should give it sufficient and regular care. The key is to degrease the chain from dried oil and dust. This is done with a universal spray degreaser that quickly removes grease, oil, dirt and brake fbrake luid. In addition to degreasing the chain, it's also great for degreasing the brake discs and cleaning the brakes.

        Grease & Go

Rather forget about the WD40 here and put it back in your father's tool box. Special oils and lubricants are used to lubricate the chain to keep dust and dirt off, to displace moisture and protect against corrosion.

It doesn't end with the chain. The fork and shock must also work properly! To lubricate the fork we use silicone oil suitable for lubricating and preserving the suspension forks. It can also be used to lubricate the O-rings and rubber seals when installing them. It finds its application wherever there is a need to lubricate the connection between metal and rubber/plastic surfaces.

If you want to convert your bikes to tubeless, you'll need special valves, rim sealing tape, and sealant, or milk, if you will. You'll get the ability to ride with less pressure, save a few grams, and get rid of the hassle of minor punctures because the sealant will seal them up on its own. But when you get a puncture that the milk isn't enough for, it's handy to carry around a Dynaplug repair capsule.

When it comes to pumps, it won't be that simple... But in fact it's quite simple. We offer travel pumps that are worth having at hand when you get a puncture somewhere on the road. But what you shouldn't miss at home is definitely a floor pump, which will inflate the bike in one go and and thanks to the barometer you will know exactly what pressure you have in the tire. More premium pumps even have a secondary chamber, which you can manually pressurize and use the foot lever to release the compressed air into the tire at once. These pumps are suitable for mounting of tubeless tires. And last but not least, there are fork and shock pumps. To make your ride comfortable, you should always pump the fork and shock to match the pressure to your weight
