Choose the right vest for the wake

8th April 2019 | 0 comments

We are warm even in the cold water, because we have a quality neoprene equipment. And there can only be one best wetsuit - O'Neill. But what to look out for when choosing a wakeboard vest?

In addition to excellent wetsuits, O'Neill has impact vests in its permanent offer for all wakeboarders. It is important not to confuse these with traditional life jackets, as they are primarily used to absorb impact while riding. Among these vests you will find the O'Neill Slasher Comp Vest and O'Neill Slasher Kite Vest, which are seemingly identical. They are made from an exclusive NytroLite foam, which makes them better able to resist impact, lighter and also much faster to dry. A front zipper and elasticated cuffs make both comfortable to put on.

The difference, however, is in the positioning of the anti-impact foam. The Slasher Kite Vest has a reinforced chest-hugging section, but the hip area remains uncovered. This is because this model is designed primarily for kiteboarding. The lumbar area is thus used to hold the waist and reinforcement here would only be detrimental. However, it can also be used for classic wakeboarding, just keep in mind that the waist is more prone to getting bumped due to the lack of foam.

In contrast, the Slasher Comp Vest is a safe bet in case you don't feel too confident on a wakeboard yet and prefer protecting your tailbone rather than performing precise tricks. This vest has extended padding that reaches down to the hips, so it can absorb even more shock.

So when you're choosing a new wakeboard vest for yourself, keep in mind this seemingly subtle but quite important difference.
