A Blast From The Past - Nidecker Classic Series

20th October 2020 | 0 comments

These three boards represent a unique chapter in the story of the Nidecker brand. It makes no difference whether you rode one of the original models or you are discovering them for the first time, life will go on. Nidecker brings these iconic graphics back to life, this time with the modern, cutting-edge technology you expect from all Nidecker snowboards.

When history meets the future

These products were designed by Nidecker for both long-term fans of the brand and those who are getting to know the brand and its products for the first time. This collection is like good music, it never goes out of style and like any great remix it offers a new dimension to old favorite songs. Bob Marley put it best at the lyrics of his song: "In this great future, you can't forget your past!"

Few brands have such a famous history as Nidecker. To pay it the tribute it deserves, we re-release some of our most famous boards. While these classic products allow the old generation of snowboarders to recall the past, the new generation will be introduced to the colorful beginnings of our sport.

1987 - The Liberty

In 1987, Oliver Stone's film "Platoon" wins the Oscar, Aretha Franklin is the first woman to be inducted into the rock'n'roll hall of fame, U2 releases their iconic album "Joshua Tree", the US president calls on Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall, Nike introduces Air Max technology, Andy Warhol dies and the future winner of the 2006 U-ramp Olympic race, Hannah Teter, is born.

In the same year, Nidecker manufactures a snowboard in Rolle, Switzerland, with a unique position in the history of the brand and snowboarding - the first snowboard to descend from the top of Mont Blanc, one of the world's most famous mountains over Chamonix, the Mecca of freeriding.

Liberty is a tribute to the roots of snowboarding based on "snow surfing". It is undoubtedly one of the best freeride boards that Nidecker has ever created. The combination of classic contours and top materials brings a fantastic feeling of a smooth stylish turning in powder, but also on nicely groomed roads, even in wet snow at the end of the season. Liberty is specially designed to conquer an uneven terrain and is ready to create paths between trees.

1988 - The Lip Stick

In 1988, for the first time, a team of Jamaican bobsleds competed at the Winter Olympics, Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" topped The Billboard Hot 100, James Hansen, a NASA scientist, said in the US Senate that global warming caused by mankind had begun, Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise excel at Rainman, and Nike presents one of the most successful campaigns in the history of the sport, accompanied by the new slogan "Just Do It".

In the same year, Nidecker constructs the Lip Stick snowboard, which later became a kind of protoype of allmountain snowboards; the completely new shape of the board deviated from the traditional shapes of the time, the inserts were placed more in the middle of the board and had a longer foot, so it was much easier to drive on the switch. The design of the board formed a fluorescent checkerboard pattern, which was very recognizable even – in the already quite colorful – second half of the 80s.

1990 - The Air Pipe

In 1990, the world celebrated the reunification of Germany, the fall of the Iron Courtain and the definitive end of the Cold War. Nelson Mandela is released after 27 years in prison. Sinnéad O'Connor conquers the music world with the song "Nothing Compares To You". Smoking on board American aircraft is prohibited. The first digital camera appears on store shelves. Czechoslovakia is experiencing its first free year after forty years of totalitarianism. Greta Garbo dies and the later two-time Olympic slopestyle winner Jamie Anderson is born.

Snowboard Air Pipe was Nidecker's first foray into the new wave of freestyle snowboarding in the early 1990s. Thanks to its special shape and softer flex, this board has become the most sought after on the market. Although the freestyle madness had its origins in the United States, Europe was not far behind.
