ROME Katana AW FASE Men's Snowboard Binding

The legend among bindings enters a new era with the FASE fast entry system.

The Katana AW FASE binding is built on the powerful and adaptable Katana AW platform with a lightweight aluminum heel that is connected to the baseplate at three points for a surf-like ride feel and perfect connection to the board.

Combined with the FASE fast entry system, you will enjoy not only the legendary performance and lightness of the Katana, but also the freedom of easy entry into the binding, which takes place in two intuitive steps - insert your foot and tighten the ankle strap. And you are good to go. No sitting in the snow and no tedious attempts to hit the ratchet with the strap. Just the joy of riding and all the advantages of a classic two-strap binding that you cannot afford to miss.

Specifications

  • Flex: 6-8/10
  • Customizability: 9/10
  • AuxTech® – a Rome innovation that delivers the perfect combination of connectivity and comfort. A pattern of geometric shapes inflated together creates a network of connections and hinges that ensure even pressure distribution, responsiveness and comfort.
  • OmniFlex Ankle Strap - The next generation of AuxTech® technology combines performance and comfort in Rome's most responsive strap. A rigid molded material is combined with a TPU spine for the perfect combination of torsional flexibility and edge-to-edge energy transfer.
  • ProGrip bottom strap – thanks to AuxTech® technology, it provides a new level of reliable boot grip and strong grip.
  • AsymWrap Construction - A revolutionary construction that combines comfort and a sense of connection. The AsymWrap heel is connected to the baseplate at 3 points, delivering a surf vibe and perfect connection to the board without compromising on responsiveness.
  • G Highback – 85% nylon, 15% fiberglass
  • G Baseplate – 15% fiberglass. Mild to medium flex for a smooth ride.
  • Forged Aluminum – forged aluminum foot for lightness, strength and durability.
  • 2° insole inclination – insole made of two-density material and with a slight inclination for a more natural stance.
  • Never Miss A Day – Rome also thinks about not missing a single day of riding due to an accident or component wear. That's why your bindings come with a set of spare parts - extra straps, screws, washers - to keep you moving.

FASE® System

  • Easy entry and exit from the bindings
  • An even better feeling of solid connection
  • Unadulterated performance of two-strap binding
  • Quick setup even while riding
  • Verified by riders in all possible terrains and all possible conditions
  • Lightweight and small footprint, the FASE system itself weighs only 40 g
  • Compatible with all snowboard boots
  • The AutoBack – a highback with a revolutionary system that allows you to jump into the binding without the assistance of your hands. The intuitive design of the highback automatically closes as soon as you insert your foot into the binding and opens when you release and lift your ankle. The AutoBack can also be folded completely forward for cable car rides or for storage.
  • The FastStrap – an ankle strap with an extra-long serrated strap that stays connected to the strap even when you exit the binding, so you don't have to hit the ratchet with the strap when you get on, but you can tighten it straight away – quickly and easily with just one hand.
  • The Locked-In Toe Strap – a bottom strap that you set once and never have to worry about again thanks to the LSR 2.0 ratchet and unique three-pronged strap. The strap is designed to stay in the same position

How to Choose Snowboard Bindings

Rule number one: boots first, bindings second! The right snowboard equipment must match and fit perfectly, so don't underestimate the importance of your choice and follow a few important steps.

Choosing the right bindings depends on several different factors. The stiffness of the bindings, size, type, material and the amount you are willing to invest are all important. We have a simple guide on how to make the best choice. But if you're still confused, drop by our shop in Brno. Together we'll talk it through and recommend the best yet personalised fit for you.

First and foremost - The Boots

The binding adjusts to the size of the boots. That's rule number one. If you're picking out your bindings in a store, it's ideal to take your boots with you and try them on to see how they fit. The straps of the binding should fit snugly around them. The easiest option is to combine binding and boots of the same brand. The models are designed to fit together automatically.

Soft or Firm Binding?

You should choose the stiffness of your snowboard and bindings according to your riding style. Softer bindings are more playful and suitable for both beginner riders and freestyle riders. A slightly stiffer binding should be chosen if you prefer rough carving on the piste or freeride.

There are several types of bindings:

Classic two-strap binding

Soft bindings consist of baseplate, heelback and straps. The method of fastening can be either over the toe or over the instep.

Speed Entry

First, you set a strap that you do not manipulate any further. The bindings are entered through the heel, so it is a much faster way of slipping on.

Step On

A simple and at the same time very quick way to put on your boots into binding. If you don't like to bend over and downright hate sitting in the cold snow before every ride, you'll love the Step On.

Which foot goes first?

Advanced snowboarders already know which foot is in front and which is in the back. But if you're a complete beginner who's never stood on a board before, there's a simple trick to find out. Just try to run outside for a bit and take the longest jump you can. Did it work? And which foot did you bounce off the ground with? That's the foot that's supposed to be the first on a snowboard. If you're not 100% sure of the outcome, ask a friend or family member to stand behind you and gently push you forward unexpectedly. Again, the foot that goes out first is the one that will be on the board in the front.

What angles to choose when mounting bindings

And speaking of the direction of the bindings, it's important to keep in mind the angle at which to attach the bindings. Whether you prefer downhill or you prefer to jump on rails, you'll be comfortable riding in the 15° and -9° positions.

Bindings overhang over the edge of the snowboard

Once you've managed to attach the bindings and you're happy with both the angle and straddle of your feet, all that's left to do is check one last important detail. The bindings (including boots) must not overhang the heel more than the toe (or vice versa). An unbalanced position of the bindings can cause a problematic ride - in short, you'll be hitting the snow with your boots and bindings every now and then. And that spoils the feeling of a perfect ride!
